George Rahi

George Rahi is a composer and sound artist exploring new hybrids between the acoustic, electronic, mechanical, and sculptural realms of sound. He frequently uses invented & altered instruments combined with electro-acoustic processes to explore perceptual relations between sound, listener and space. From kinetic installations using robotics and new media to large-scale works for pipe organ and gamelan, his creations enact a unique and singular compositional vision to produce new sound worlds. His work has been heard at the Canadian Music Centre, Western Front, SPEKTRUM (Berlin), Vancouver New Music, and Insitu Recordings (Indonesia). He is the recipient of the 2018 R. Murray Schafer Soundscape award for his work in public sound installation and is the instrument maker of the experimental percussion ensemble Gamelan Bike Bike.
